Waipopo artist Francine Spencer (Kāti Māmoe, Ngāi Tahu, Waitaha and Taranaki) has crafted copper koru style Christmas decorations. Waipopo artist Francine Spencer (Kāti Māmoe, Ngāi Tahu, Waitaha and Taranaki) is a self-taught sculptor, weaver and painter of 13 years, who will have a stall at the market. Her craft focuses on copper which she loves because ‘’it is from mother earth and is a healing metal’’. She has made koru Christmas decorations, earrings, and bracelets depicting friendship through the way the flax (muka) is bound together with copper.
