Best Comic of the Week:
Grendel: Devil’s Odyssey #5 – It’s been about a year since the last issue, but it’s all good, as I’m just happy to return to Grendel Prime’s mission, looking for a suitable planet to restart the human race. The latest candidate is a massive, planet-sized city that appears to have been fully automated, where the mechanisms that kept the city running are still working, even though all life has been extinguished. Matt Wagner has a real Twilight Zone vibe working for him here, as he takes a couple of issues to explore a science fiction concept. I like this series, and will forever think of Grendel Prime as my favourite Grendel. He’s also the coolest looking.

, SYFY WIRE s weekly comics column that gets at the pulse of what s going on in comics right now. We ve got what you need to know about huge crossovers, real-life issues facing the industry, cool first looks, the week s hot new comics, and everything in between.
We tend to lead off this column quite often with stories of developing events and publishing ventures from the Big Two, because here at SYFY WIRE we tend to spend a lot of time with the superheroes of Marvel and DC Comics, for obvious reasons. If there s one thing I ve tried to emphasize over and over, though, particularly in the reviews section of Comics Wire, it s that there are a lot of smaller publishers putting out great stuff you should be paying attention to right now. One of the best of them is Vault Comics, and over the last week or so they ve made one thing very clear: They re not just here to stay in 2021 they re expanding.
