The EU has committed to slashing its emissions by 55 percent by 2030, a goal that requires the bloc to ditch dirty energy and install renewable power on a larger scale and at a faster pace than ever before.
The scale of what s coming will become clear on July 14, when the European Commission puts forward its Fit for 55 package. The 2018 Renewable Energy Directive is among the legislation set to be reviewed, and according to the draft revamp, the Commission is set to propose raising the bloc s target for the share of energy that should come from renewable sources by 2030 from its current 32 percent to between 38 percent and 40 percent.
