Image: Opening panel on NetGalley’s Japan site Toolan: ‘Continuity for Our Customers’ In an announcement made to members of the press this evening (February 1), Fran Toolan founding CEO of Firebrand Technologies, which owns NetGalley has announced that both companies have been sold to Media Do International. Seated in San Diego, Media Do International is the American subsidiary of Tokyo’s Media Do Ltd. In Japan, the company was founded in 1994 by Yasushi Fujita,  reportedly while in his junior year in college. The US company was created in 2016.

NetGalley Suffers Data Breach Dec 28, 2020 NetGalley, the service for digital downloads of advance readers copies of books, suffered a data breach on December 21 that may have revealed some personal information to hackers. The company became aware of the issue when its homepage was defaced and, after further investigation, realized there was unauthorized and unlawful access to the backup file of the NetGalley database. Our database backup was stored in the Amazon Cloud. There was a temporary lapse in security protocol for one of our testing servers, and the credentials became easily attainable by a hacker, wrote the company in an announcement on its website on December 23.
