Family gives special gift to teachers of its six children

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. (AP) All different ages and different personalities, the six Salesky children gathered around Faith Christian Academy fourth-grade teacher Fran Stoddard, a rush of memories hitting each sibling, some fresher than others.
The family presented her with a shirt that said, “I survived the Salesky family FCA 2009-2021.”
“She always said she wouldn’t retire until she got her Salesky shirt,” mom Cheri Salesky laughed, adding Stoddard will retire after this year.
An 11-year difference from the oldest, Sasha, to the youngest, Jenavie, with Landon, Ellarie, Corrine and Makaylah in between, the Saleskys have had three teachers in common for all six siblings, Stoddard being the most recent. All six siblings also had pre-K teacher Ramona Tiegs and kindergarten teacher Amy Keppley.

A seat at the tables on the first floor of Howe Library has long been a prime UVM study spot. Along the walls of this student hub, in the form of the H. Lawrence McCrorey Gallery of Multicultural Art, the spirit of one of the university’s most respected and beloved professors continues to exert a quiet influence. Established at his retirement in 1995, it’s a fitting memorial for a champion of social justice and a true renaissance man, an accomplished jazz saxophonist who began performing with bands in Camden, N.J., at age 13.
