Plans revealed at a planning board meeting in Worcester on Wednesday showed renderings of a distribution center set for the location of the Greendale Mall.

In its heyday, the Greendale Mall in Worcester attracted some of the biggest tenants in retail. On Wednesday, the biggest household name yet hit Greendale as Amazon revealed its interest in the property located directly off Interstate 190.
However, the mall won’t be around to see the global e-commerce giant. Last month, the new owner of the Greendale Mall filed plans with the city to demolish the structure built in 1987. In its spot, the Finard Properties, which purchased the mall last December, will construct a 121,212-square-foot distribution center. Amazon is the proposed tenant.

Weeks after the new owner of the Greendale Mall in Worcester filed plans demolish the facility, Amazon revealed itself as the proposed tenant in plans for a distribution warehouse on the site.
While global e-commerce giant is the proposed tenant, a lease has not been signed, a city spokesperson said. Discussion on the topic will continue at the planning board’s next meeting on Dec. 30.
