British vocal ensemble VOCES8 will return to Penn State with “After Silence,” a program of choral works inspired by Aldous Huxley’s thoughts on the essential force of music, at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 12 in the School of Music’s Recital Hall.

Foxdale Recycles
At Foxdale Village, we take recycling very seriously. In 2017, Foxdale Village recycled more than 57,000 pounds of paper – enough to save more than 194,000 gallons of water and 476 trees. But we didn’t stop there. We also recycled 4,940 pounds of metals, 7,030 pounds of plastic, and 8,680 pounds of glass. It’s dedication like this that helped Foxdale become a Centre County Green Business Partner Emerald Award recipient.
She arrived in Happy Valley as a Penn State freshman in 1972, and she’s never left. She married her college sweetheart, gave birth to two children and now dotes joyfully on three grandchildren.
But even though she brims with pride over those loved ones, Lydia Abdullah has never limited the exercise of her motherly gifts to her own family. In fact, Mrs. Abdullah has also showered empathy and hugs on others throughout the Centre Region. That’s why she richly deserves selection as my “Happy Valley Mother of the Year.”
Although I admit my own limitations in choosing among our community’s many fabulous moms, I am nonetheless proud of the three honorees:
