With May being Mental Health Awareness Month, Hope Network is inviting people to get moving with a free monthlong program to benefit mental health.
The Mental Health Awareness Month Virtual 51K Challenge begins Saturday and runs the entire month. Participants are invited to run or walk 51 kilometers (approximately 31 miles) throughout the month, honoring the 51.5 million people who live with a form of mental illness in the United States.
With May having 31 days, participants can break up the distance however they like and would need to average about 1 mile per day. There is no cost to participate, and those who take part are encouraged to invite friends and family to donate in support of their challenge.
Getting a job as a young person isn t always the easiest and adding the affects of the pandemic on top of that doesn t make it any easier so this is a really cool opportunity for teens and young adults in Grand Rapids.
Through their youth empowerment program, GRow1000, the city of Grand Rapids will place 650 young people in different jobs this summer. In a press release from the city they say that individuals between 15 and 24 are encouraged to apply now. The program began last year and employed 354 people in more than 60 types of jobs across West Michigan.
City Manager Mark Washington praised the businesses that teamed with them to help the city s youth.

MARQUETTE Two men have been arrested on charges relating to the theft of motor vehicles from Fox Motors in Marquette Township, the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office announced on Wednesday.
In September, the sheriff’s office received complaints of two stolen vehicles from Fox Motors. Thirteen felonies were authorized and warrants were issued for seven Marquette County residents.
To date, two subjects have been arrested. Arrested on Dec. 4 was David Henry Vaughan, 33, on one count of stolen property-re David Henry Vaughan

Arrested on Tuesday was Matthew Christopher Rasanen, 29, on two counts of stolen property-receiving and concealing-motor vehicle.
MARQUETTE, MI Arrests have been made in connection with vehicles stolen from Fox Motors in Marquette Township in September.
The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says the two vehicles taken from the dealership were later recovered in Muskegon.
The Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office authorized 13 felonies and arrest warrants were issued for seven Marquette County residents.
This month David Vaughan, 33, was arrested for receiving and concealing stolen property-motor vehicle, and Matthew Rasanen, 29, was arrested on two counts of receiving and concealing a stolen vehicle.
Arrest warrants are active for the remaining five suspects.
