terrifying crash. a fighter jet slammed into a virginia beach apartment complex today and now the navy is blaming a catastrophic mechanical malfunction. thanks for joining us tonight. i m laura evans. i m brian bolter. the two pilots ejected from the fa-18 hornet just before it crashed. several people were hospital but so far no deaths. fox 5 s karen gray houston with the latest. the latest was in we have is that there are no reports of anyone missing. a virginia fire captain says 40 apartment units were damaged. officials are trying to find shelter for those who need it. six of the seven people injured have been released from the hospital and the two pilots are an instructor and his student. eyewitnesses say they heard several small explosions and moments after the plane crashed there was a huge plume of black smoke and the smell of jet fuel. it just looked basically like he dropped out of the sky pretty much. the front end of the plane started going down and then boom
