welcome back. president trump s promise to put factory workers back to work in wisconsin seems to be going south or at least a little bit side ways. fox con has nixed the plans to invest $10 billion in a high tech manufacturing factory there. instead, they will recruit researchers and engineers to turn the location into what they are calling a technology hub. we ll get into what that means in a minute and how the community is responding. here is what the president said last year when he went to wisconsin for the ground breaking. i want to wish you good luck and congratulations on truly one of the eighth wonders i think we can say the eighth wonder of the world. this is the eighth wonder of the world. this is something so special.
13,000 jobs. part of it is that is what part of talking to people down there is about is you are getting conflicting reports from the outlets in japan talking to a ticompany on the business sid we are getting different news here in wisconsin. part of it is the uncertainty that people are dealing with. what is going to happen? we are hearing two sides kind of. foxconn and the county reiterated that 13,000 jobs should be coming to the area. what those jobs are remains unclear. that is another question. it may differ on the promise made. great reporting. thank you for being with us. keep us posted. thank you. that is a big disappointment for that community. nfl commisioner roger goodell breaks his silence on the controversial or might just call it bad no call from the nfc championship game. we ll have more in just a bit.
available? that is a concern out there. a lot of people out there are still very supportive of this project. they want the business. remember it s a republican area. this was paul ryan s congressional district. a lot of them are supportive of the president and they are saying bring the business here, but on the other hand, a lot of the people are saying i have a lot of family members who were hoping to get in on these jobs and in on a more kind of factory assembly line job. those don t seem to be coming like they thought they once were. but you got a statement as i understand it that is significant. it seems to indicate that they still believe that 13,000 jobs are coming to this location. is that right? it is. i got a statement not only from the county but from foxconn that they remain commit today the
can imagine that medicare for all means any of those things, right? but over the course of a long campaign, candidates are going to have to be pretty specific and very articulate about exactly what changes they would make to the healthcare system and change tends to freak people out. there is always the donald trump option of just promising everything, that you re going to get rid of obamacare, lower costs, improve service, improve benefits, but we have seen pretty clearly overtime that that has been kind of a trap for the president. on the subject of promises that don t always bear out, fox con, giant technology company had promised to invest heavily in wisconsin, bring 13,000 jobs there, build a plant blue collar jobs, in exchange for enormous tax breaks and incentives. had is something that donald trump to an extent took credit for and praised. let s just play what the president said when this deal was struck. moments ago we broke ground on a plant that will provide jobs for m
the eighth wonder of the world. it was quite a promise. joining me now is brandon colorton from milwaukee. i remember that day so well. the eighth wonder of the world, not so much anymore. what is actually going to happen from what you are learning on the ground? well, it s unclear. fox conn keeps changing the story little by little. the people down there, i was talking to community members yesterday about this news. they were kind of disappointed hearing that some of these blue collar jobs which it is a blue collar city according to the people i was talking to yesterday. it is looking like it is a little more tech based and a little more engineering jobs. their concern is some of the people kountding on the jobs may not have the skills to get the jobs that will actually be
