NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - This yearâs Mardi Gras was certainly unlike any other.
A crackdown on gatherings in the French Quarter, coupled with the COVID-19 pandemic, and a bitter ice storm that blanketed most of the country put quite a damper on the Carnival celebration. Bourbon Street, Mardi Gras 2021. (Source: NOPD)
But all hope was not lost, as the resiliency of the people of New Orleans trudged over and around obstacles to keep the Mardi Gras spirit alive.
Hard freeze expected tonight; icy roads and power outages possible
Shelby: Monday Morning Freeze Update By Shelby Latino | February 15, 2021 at 5:35 AM CST - Updated February 15 at 5:58 AM
As temperatures fall and more rain is expected, ice will develop on the roadways through the morning and early afternoon. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Tangipahoa & Washington Parishes as well as west of our viewing area. That’s for up to 1/2″ of ice which will lead to dangerous roadways and power outages. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the rest of the areas north of Lake Pontchartrain as well as the river and bayou parishes. That’s for a light icing, up to 1/10″. The rain should come to an end by mid-afternoon, but the frigid air will keep pouring into the area.
Scattered showers and storms will cross the area through the morning hours. Drier skies are expected by the afternoon but temperatures won t move much leaving us feeling like the 40s all day long.
