With the success of the Wizard of Oz plaza in downtown Oconomowoc, city officials are looking to expand the popular attraction.
The plaza just west of City Hall was created in 2019 before the 80th anniversary of the classic film. Oconomowoc has been credited with hosting the world premier of the film, though there are conflicting reports.
The existing plaza includes a yellow brick road and statues of Dorothy, Toto, the Tin Man, Scarecrow, the Cowardly Lion, the Wicked Witch of the West and the Wizard of Oz. We think it s great, said Kristi Weber, a planner and community development specialist with the city. Our residents enjoy it, and the characters add a little bit more flavor to the downtown and the uniqueness of it. They are a year-round attraction. They draw a lot of people.
