Viewpoint: Proposed budget takes money away from public schools

Viewpoint: Proposed budget takes money away from public schools Shelby Phelps © Provided photo Shelby Phelps is an EVSC teacher. I am a proud public school teacher. I have taught high school English for the past six years. Over the course of my teaching career, I’ve seen educational policy proposed and passed, most of which has targeted public education funding that supports 90% of children in Indiana. The most recent budget proposal, presented and passed by the House Ways and Means Committee, would increase state funding for K-12 education by $378 million over the next two years a 3.8% boost from this school year. The state would spread that increase across all Indiana public schools and a host of other education priorities.
