Chain of kindness: Superior students connect through shared project

A positive message covers one of the links of the kindness chain at Superior Middle School Wednesday, Feb. 24. (Jed Carlson / jcarlson@superiortelegram.com) Bryant Elementary School first grader Blake Kaspar walked next to the chain, looking for his contribution. The 7-year-old decorated half a dozen links with smiley faces, hearts and rainbows. “They show love and respect,” he said. “It reminds people to care about one another.” Sixth graders Gabby Rusk and Lexi Kaspar walked with Blake. For them, the chain brought back memories of a similar class project when they were third graders at Bryant. The two aren’t sure what words of kindness they penned, but it made an impact they remember to this day.

Superior School Board approves pay increase for school nurses

“I’m worried that we will not be able to fill that position if we don’t increase that salary schedule,” she said. “That’s the second largest population school, so we need to have an RN at the middle school.” The registered nurse salary will increase $5 from $23.13 to $28.83 per hour at the starting step, graduating up to $36.49 per hour at step 10, which is an increase of more than $10 from the old schedule. Salary schedule increases for licensed practical nurses, certified medical assistants and the health services coordinator were also approved by the board. The district currently employs five registered nurses, three licensed practical nurses or certified medical assistants and one health services coordinator.
