Late last year The Church of the Pentecost UK applied for planning permission to change the use of the second floor of a dance studio based at 108 Sunbridge Road to a place of worship. The application said most services would be held on weekends. The section of the 19th century building has been on the market since September 2019. The building is on a prominent spot on the corner of Sunbridge Road and Barry Street in Bradford city centre, with housing association offices on the ground floor.
TRADERS at St James’s Wholesale Market have partnered with Fountains Church in Bradford to divert unsold fruit and vegetables into food boxes or as ingredients to create meals to those most in need in the District. The market will be working alongside Duncan Milwain and his team from Fountains Church to supply fresh produce that would normally be disposed and converted into renewable energy or fertiliser for crops. Traders were delighted to take part in this initiative as it saves food from going to waste and redistributes it to help fight hunger. The concept of channelling unsold foods responsibly has always been at the forefront of many of the traders, however, the appointment of a food surplus coordinator by Fountains Church has meant having a dedicated person on site to collect any unsold fruit & vegetables each day and ensures traders can manage their businesses in an more efficient way.
THE team behind a new city centre church which has seen the transformation of a run-down former nightclub building say they have “big dreams” for its future. Fountains Church, next to the Alhambra theatre, was once home to clubs including Walkabout, Revolution and Tequila, but had stood empty and a shadow of its former self for some time, becoming a haven for anti-social behaviour, drug taking and vandalism. In 2019, plans were revealed by the Anglican Diocese of Leeds to transform the building into a new £4.6 million city centre place of worship - its name inspired by the iconic City Park fountains.
