With its doors open only a month, the Fountain Hills Medical Center has already seen a lot of patients, according to Emergency Director, Dr. Scott Schleifer.

The local restaurant, owned by Merita Kraya, had been open only a few days in 2001 when the St. Patrickâs Day festivities got underway in Fountain Park. Unbeknownst to Kraya, St. Patrickâs Day has always been a big deal in the community.
When people started gathering in the park to watch the fountain turn green, Kraya thought it was unusual when things began to get busy.
âI had no idea that St. Patrickâs Day was a big deal in the town, and we were not prepared for the crowds,â she said. âWe were planning a slow opening.â
The Planning and Zoning Commission has delayed its discussion on a Zoning Ordinance amendment that would allow hospitals as a use in all commercial zoning districts in Fountain Hills.
Development Services Director John Wesley proposed the change as a follow-up to the Town Council approval of the Fountain Hills Medical Center within a C-1 zoning district at Trevino Drive and Saguaro Blvd.
At the time the application for the hospital was received in 2019, there was no provision for hospitals in the townâs Zoning Ordinance, according to Wesley. At that time, staff determined that C-2 would be the most appropriate zoning district for that use. The developer initially applied for a zoning change to C-2 for the subject property.
Town of Fountain Hills Development Services Director John Wesley gave the Town Council an update on ongoing and proposed development projects at the annual council retreat on Feb. 23.
The Fountain Hills Medical Center at Saguaro Blvd. and Trevino Drive is about to open its doors. According to Wesley, they are working on contractor punch list items as well as state inspections to obtain permits and a certificate of occupancy.
Medical Center officials have not announced an opening date.
Wesley said the facility will also be adding a sidewalk along the Saguaro Blvd. frontage to the property.
In Adero Canyon there are three of eight platted parcels essentially complete. An additional parcel with 13 lots is nearing completion.
