Foundation Fighting Blindness, the world s leading organization committed to finding treatments and cures for blinding retinal diseases, announces that it has appointed Claire M. Gelfman, Ph.D. as chief scientific officer. In her new role, Dr. Gelfman will be responsible for leading the overarching scientific strategy for the organization with a focus on research initiatives designed to accelerate new treatments and cures for inherited retinal diseases.
Additionally, Dr. Gelfman will oversee the Foundation s non-clinical research portfolio, including early translational and pre-clinical research programs. She will also serve as the primary scientific contact with the Foundation s Scientific Advisory Board, the Research Oversight Committee, academic institutions, and government science agencies.

The Asthma and Respiratory Foundation New Zealand is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr James Fingleton, BM, PhD, FRACP, as Medical Director.
Dr Fingleton is a respiratory physician and Clinical Leader for Respiratory at Wellington Regional Hospital, where he runs the severe asthma service.
He is also a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Otago and Honorary Research Associate at Victoria University of Wellington.
Dr Fingleton’s research interests focus on the treatment of airways disease, particularly severe asthma and COPD, with a particular interest in personalised medicine. He has been a member of the Asthma and Respiratory Foundation’s Scientific Advisory Board since last year, and as Medical Director he will take on the Board Chair role.
