As a way to bear witness to a forgotten page of Holocaust history, a Polish foundation hopes to restore a canteen where SS guards used to eat.
The area was also a place where guards would seek distraction after long days of killing at the former Nazi German death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau.
One of the main reasons behind this initiative is that the building was the focal point of the family and personal life of the SS and served as escapism to soldiers.
