HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - In a joint effort to enhance security at parks, the city and Hawaii Tourism Authority will be installing security cameras at four Oahu parks.
Officials said 75 security cameras will be installed across Kuhio Beach Park, Kapiolani Regional Park/Paki Community Park, Foster Botanical Garden and Ala Moana Regional Park.
The city said cameras will be installed near the restroom areas of the park to deter vandalism and other criminal activity.

The idea came while we were walking through a park just minutes away from downtown. It seemed simple enough: Photograph the oldest trees in Honolulu. Finding them, however, is anything but simple. First, we had to eliminate ones that grow in the wild. After all, how could we say with any certainty that a giant koa which the U.S. Forest Service says is difficult to date because the tree doesn’t grow rings is older than another species on another island? Then, with quarantine rules firmly in place, we decided to restrict our hunt to O‘ahu. (Sending regards to Lahaina’s 147-year-old banyan, the oldest in the state.)

With pristine beaches, towering waterfalls and lush rainforests, Hawaiʻi is paradise on Earth. When the Aloha State rolled out its welcome mat to visitors after months of lockdown, the 19 Hilton properties on Oʻahu, Maui, Kauaʻi and Hawai‘i Island were ready with new protocols. Hilton’s top priority is its guests’ safety, which is why the hotel chain rolled out enhanced housekeeping standards. The new Hilton CleanStay program also includes a special room seal to indicate that no one has entered the room since it has been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. By using the Hilton Honors app, guests can skip the front desk and opt for contactless check-in, as well as select and access their room with a digital room key.

Find Tranquility Amongst the Trees and Trails of Hoʻomaluhia Botanical Garden
Get lost in the rainforest flora at Ho‘omaluhia Botanical Garden, O‘ahu’s youngest and largest botanical garden.

“An hour in the garden puts life’s problems in perspective.”
This is on a sign posted on the door of Ho‘omaluhia Botanical Garden’s visitor center. I’ve only been here a minute, but I can already understand the sentiment on a spiritual level. Ever since my girlfriend, Kaila, and I crossed the the Ko‘olau Mountains on the Pali Highway and came out on the other side, I could feel the dull thrum of my daily stresses soften. By the time we passed the quiet neighborhood bordering the garden, filled with one-story homes and little yards with mango and plumeria trees, I felt like I could relax a little. And then we entered the garden, and I found room to breathe. Four hundred acres, to be exact.
