Carbon-free LNG powers Spanish ferry

Carbon-free LNG powers Spanish ferry Jun 3, 2021 9:20:am Summary by: William Powell Posted in: Carbon-free LNG powers Spanish ferry Swiss utility Axpo has supplied carbon-free LNG to Spanish ferry operator Balearia for a high-speed crossing, it said June 3 – the first such crossing to be so fuelled. The Eleanor Roosevelt travelled the 133 nautical miles between Barcelona and Ciutadella in Menorca using renewable biomethane certified by Axpo Iberia.  The use of liquefied climate-friendly biomethane avoided the emission of more than 50 metric tons of CO 2. Axpo Iberia s head Ignacio Soneira said: The enormous challenges of achieving a carbon-free world demand the use of all the means at our disposal. This includes using energy produced from waste converted into biomethane.

Kentucky landfill becomes new source for RNG

Kentucky landfill becomes new source for RNG May 13, 2021 5:06:pm Summary by: Daniel Graeber Posted in: Kentucky landfill becomes new source for RNG Renewable natural gas company Archaea Energy said May 13 a project in Kentucky sourcing landfill gas for energy is now operational. Working with trash hauler Rumpke Waste & Recycling, Archaea said the Kentucky plant is now producing pipeline-quality renewable natural gas (RNG) using landfill gas from an area site as a source. The Boyd County Sanitary Landfill, located near the Ohio border, processes about 1,400 tons of trash every day, which is now being converted into about 2,300mn Btu of RNG. Archaea said that previous efforts to use the gas emitted from the decomposition of landfill material were unable to produce pipeline-quality RNG unless it was blended with significant amounts of conventional natural gas.
