Thing about thurgood and how important he was to the country for africanamericans, for those who wanted to go to law school. I was a part of that generation who looked up to and believed in him and was inspired by him that ii to someday could go to law school and become a lawyer. And there is a whole generation of people just like me who have gone on to do that because of the bravery and the courage of Thurgood Marshall. So tonight we are here together this evening. I view this as the intersection of history and the future. What do i mean by that . Intersection of history and future . Well, we are in Lincoln Theater. In this theater this was the only place where black folks could come and be entertained in a theaterthe theater because they could not go downtown. They come right here. In this theater, it was nearly demolished. We saved it, renovated it, and it is now one of the jewels of the city of columbus. History. As we began to receive the vinyl to be saved, we began turning over the b sides of the 45s that we received. First off, gospel music was not widely heard in the white community. What it was, it was only the hits, if that. The b or flip side would be heard less. What we discovered quickly was how many of the b side songs were directly related to the civil rights movement. Since theres few databases and none of them are complete on gospel music, didnt know that. We didnt know the sheer number of songs that
So we specialize in only north korea. We do it daytoday, which is in the slow summer days of august can be very, very difficult. You know, we are really struggling sometimes to find leads for stories to do something original and its those times when personally it does get to you and you just wish this could be a bit more of a normal country and access and get in and interview various people and find leads for content. Thats something that troubles me a lot. And its something in the long term if we cant resolve well, i think, drive good journalists away from the subject because they will just find to it be such a challenge to continue working on. The other thing which has been alluded to is we have an issue, a difficulty with reports from north korea that its quite unique to international relations. So we often hire south korean nationals, be they interns or staffers in seoul and we actually have a problem with quite a high turn over rate with these people because oftentimes they will a
General steve lenic. That starts at 10 00 a. M. Eastern live on c span 3. Here a few of the comments weve recently received from our viewers. Im in my 80s and im a big fan on c span, i want to complement them on being able to bring together two different ie deologies like they did this morning from the Kato Institute and the immigration policy center. I think you need more programming that way among people that can conduct themselves with a very civil tone. I applaud you for that. Thank you very much for c span. I listen to c span pretty much on a daily regular basis. I find it to be very informative. Its a very good look at all of our different politicians so that citizens can understand exactly who we elect and whats being done in congress because it seems to be that congress is undecided or always fighting. Its important that the citizens have a nice outlet for them to see the proceedings that go on. So i appreciate c span, and regardless whether or not its popular with mainstream c
