UNHCR Tunisia Operational Update - 31 March 2021 Format 9 Operational Context Rescue at sea operations and interceptions at land/sea continued at a high rate during the month of March. Two shipwrecks occurred on 10 March along Sfax governorate. In the first shipwreck off Kerkennah island, 39 people drowned while 134 survivors were brought to shore by the Tunisian marine guards. The second shipwreck took place off the coast of Jebeniana city with 70 persons onboard, including four children, who were all taken to shore. The rescued were placed in shelters and provided with the necessary assistance. UNHCR and its partner the Tunisian Council for Refugees continue to be present at disembarkation points to provide urgent relief.

UNHCR Tunisia Operational Update - 30 November 2020 Format Operational Context As of 30 November 2020, Tunisia recorded 96,769 total cases of COVID-19. In the last two months, some 75,000 new cases were recorded. On 15 November, Tunisian Prime Minister extended the preventive measures in place for an additional period of three weeks, including night curfew, early closure of cafes and restaurants, suspension of travel between governorates, attendance at places of worship and a ban on all gatherings and public events; while schools and university lectures resumed as normal. Starting from 16 November, new rules for travellers coming from abroad entered into force as well. In order to comply with those measures, most of the group activities for refugees and asylum-seekers were suspended or conducted with reduced presence, while in-office presence for UNHCR staff is limited to 50 per cent.
