Trying to create chinas why its middle class is being blamed for a rise in pollution. Now polls have just opened in the u. K. Is 3rd a general election and less than 5 years after a 6 Week Campaign Prime Minister johnson is seeking another term for his conservative party and opposition is the Labor Party Led by Jeremy Coleman its hoped the snap election will break the parliamentary deadlock over how britain should leave the European Union well lets get more now from our correspondent rory chalons who is live for us in london so repose of just opened voting has begun but its also set to be pretty cold and what that today how is it all likely to pan out especially in terms of turnout. Yeah turnout is going to be a big issue here but one of the crucial factors so is tactical voting because this is an election that has been framed all around brecks it pretty much so the Traditional Party loyalties might be starting to fray is unpredictable we dont know which way these tactical voting thing
Going to vote for. The viewership of the debates is second only to the most widely watched tv program in the u. S. Which is the super bowl. The final of the u. S. Style football championships. To put it into scale, a well watched primary debate in the u. S. Will have 3 Million Viewers. A typical network news program will have 6 million to 7 Million Viewers. A poorly watched president ial debate will have 37 viewers and a well watched debate, 75 Million Viewers in the u. S. And any more overseas. I would like to shift gears at this point and discuss the commissions International Work which is done in partnership with the National Democratic institute. The commission has collectively help groups in more than 35 countries around the world. As you may have seen in your own country or as the slideshow indicates, there is a Global Movement toward making candidate debates part of an election. It talked initially about two reactors, the possibility of moving up to eight. We know from our own experience here in the United States, we know from the japanese experience and the European Experience its a lot easier to announce reactors than to build reactors, although it would be interesting to see if a not in my Backyard Movement crops up in iran. That would be an interesting story. It creates a rational of sorts under which the iranians could justify going up to the supreme fugse as 0,000 sentry a rational for fueling these when they get built. It takes so long to build them, they would have plenty of time to do this. To that degree it helps. The other side is the iranians are inefficient producers of uranium. If they wanted to do this at a cheaper price they would buy the nuclear fuel on the open market. There is a glut oist, particularly after the japanese closed down so many of their reactors. But there was a glut before that time. And so it doesnt make a lot of sense for the
Flow of vital information. I agree with your point about whistleblower protections, but there are a range of different motives. There are spy, Robert Hanssen types. No sympathy for that. A lot of people leak because it makes them feel important. They are in the know, and it shows they are in the know. It makes them feel good to do that. I dont have much sympathy for that. I do have sympathy for an actual whistleblower. Were are instances where h have seen for the right reason they have gone to the press and laid out what a disagree with. Adont know that we can have system that allows every person asideide, but if you put that systemic issue, i understand where whistleblowers are coming from, and its incumbent on the government to have a process that allows whistleblowers to raise his or her concerns, get them heard, protect them from retaliation, and be confident if there is a need for change there will be congressional a committees. You say its broken now. I dont know if it ever becam
