Not-for-profit group Fortem Australia, which helps first responders deal with trauma, will now have guaranteed funding after an apparent about-face from the federal government.
Fortem Managing Director John Bale says the organisation has taken model of Soldier On, which supports veterans and their families, and transferred this across to first responders, including Australian Federal Police and Australian Border Force.
“Veterans now are getting the support they deserve, and I think first responders weren’t, and through Fortem and other entities out there that are doing work in this space . we’re changing that narrative," he told Sky News Australia.
“Nothing like Fortem exists in Australia or, in fact, the rest of the world.”
