Sunny skies and warm weather greeted a respectful crowd that gathered at the Fort Vancouver Artillery Barracks on Memorial Day to remember family, friends and community members who died in military service.
The event put on by the Community Military Appreciation Committee, or CMAC featured a slew of speakers ranging from Vancouver Mayor Anne McEnerny-Ogle to Gold Star mother Meredith McMackin. There was also a wreath-laying ceremony at the nearby Clark County Veterans War Memorial.
With Memorial Day 2021 being the first work and school holiday since the easing of most coronavirus restrictions, expect many popular recreation locations to be crowded or even full. If you head out for a hike this weekend, have a backup plan if your trailhead is jam-packed. In another sign that progress is being made to stem the coronavirus pandemic, a state-run vaccination site near Ridgefield is closing. While COVID-19 remains a threat to our community’s well-being, it is important to celebrate the positive milestones after about 14 months of difficult news.
