The Fort Steuben Daughters of the American Revolution Centennial Bench Committee, Regent Vickie Joseph, Denese White, Karen Watson Blanc and Janet Rymer, met May 1 at Historic Fort Steuben, Steubenville, with Executive Director Paul Zuros and Mayor Jerry Barilla to finalize plans for the dedication of the centennial commemorative bench. DAR members and friends are encouraged to attend this Saturday’s meeting at noon at Historic Fort Steuben for the chapter’s dedication of the bench to the fort. Barilla announced that the dedication will be held inside the Visitor Center with the DAR lunch and business meeting to follow. February is typically a slow time at Historic Fort Steuben. We are generally recovering from the excitement of the holiday season and looking forward to months of warmer weather.
This year, though, we are getting ready to unveil an exhibit on the Civil War that will open Sunday and run through March 20. What makes this exhibit personally exciting for me is that it emphasizes actual artifacts and objects from the time.
Thanks to our donors, Lewis Anile and James Ludwig, who generously loaned their incredible Civil War collections, we can welcome visitors here to experience the Civil War through these objects first hand.

PARIS, Pa. People gathered Saturday in cemeteries across America on Saturday to remember those who have served their nation.
The tributes are part of the annual Wreaths Across America program, whose mission is to remember and honor those who have served in the armed forces, and teach those living about their sacrifice. A dream of a 12-year-old boy in the early 1990s to honor veterans, starting with an area of Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C., has spread to more than 2,000 cemeteries, where, each December, wreaths are placed on the graves of veterans.
