Motorists have been urged to use caution when driving on Friday as refrozen snow is expected to create icy conditions on some roads.
The 6 inches of snow that fell on Fort Smith Sunday through Wednesday began to melt on Thursday, which had a high in the 30s and mostly sunny skies. Officials ask anyone driving on Friday or Saturday to remain vigilant as ice could accumulate from melted snow that freezes overnight.
“Any time you have liquid and freezing temperatures, there’s a possibility for ice, said National Weather Service meteorologist Joe Sellers.
Fort Smith had a high of 32 and a low of 7 on Thursday night and is forecast to have a high of 39 and low of 19 on Friday. Sellers believes the impact will be limited in the city.
