Mission accomplished: Army sergeant completes walk for fallen heroes families

By SCOTT TADY | Beaver County Times | Published: April 25, 2021 (Tribune News Service) U.S. Army Sgt. Ben Linkous completed his 26.2-mile walk through Beaver County on Saturday, raising money and awareness for Legacies Alive, a nonprofit that helps military families who have lost a loved one in the line of duty. Exhausted but in good humor, Linkous reached Mile Marker 25, the Fort McIntosh historic military site in Beaver, about 5:15 p.m., having begun his walk at 8 that morning, the whole time wearing a weighted 40-pound backpack. Three uniformed Fort McIntosh Garrison reenactment group members ceremonially fired guns in salute of Linkus, who was applauded by a crowd of well-wishers, having reached the River Road site with an escort of motorcyclists.
