An 18-year-old woman died after a personal watercraft crash on Fort Loudon Lake near downtown Knoxville and a 70-year-old man also died in an attempt to rescue her, according to the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency.
The agency said the woman crashed into a bridge support near Alcoa Highway late Saturday afternoon and that a man in a nearby pontoon boat jumped in the water to help. He was incapacitated by a medical emergency, the agency said. Bystanders on another boat pulled both victims from the water and administered CPR, however neither survived, the agency wrote.
The crash is under investigation by the TWRA, the agency said, adding it offers prayers and condolences for the victim’s families.
