OGDENSBURG, N.Y. (WWNY) - Clarkson University students are bridging the gap not only between college and community, but also between a historic site and scenic island.
The Fort de la Presentation Association needs a bridge. Engineering students need some real world experience.
“That was really good with this project, really taking everything we learned throughout our undergrad and piecing it all together into one final project was pretty nice,” said Tyler MacNeil, Clarkson University senior.

OGDENSBURG, N.Y. (WWNY) - The first in a wave of big projects kicks off on Ogdensburgâs waterfront. Theyâre hoping theyâll make the shoreline more resilient the next time waters rise.
Rock solid. Thatâs what theyâre hoping for Ogdensburgâs waterfront. They remember what happened at Fort de la Presentation last time.
âIn 2019, it was so frustrating to stand there and the wind and the current just throwing water over. That whole area was flooded and unavailable,â said Barbara OâKeefe, Fort de la Presentation Association president.
OGDENSBURG â The cityâs Fort de la Presentation will undergo several renovations soon, including the cityâs own archeological park.
The Fort de la Presentation Association, which owns 25 acres of property at Van Rensselaer Point, recently acquired the Thomas Duffy property on Van Rensselaer, bringing the total amount of property to 27 acres.
âThe property we bought has the remains of the actual fort on it,â Fort Association President Barbara OâKeefe said. âUnderneath it, archeologists have found at least the bastion of the fort and a lot of 18th century artifacts from the French and British period and the War of 1812, the American period.â
