General to hear about the proposal for the department of defense. I will start with some good news or start by thanking the witnesses for being here and further service to the country. Both served their country in various capacities for a long time, not an easy thing to do. I appreciate that and look forward to continuing to work with you. Unlike last year, we have a budget agreement, and last year we spend a lot of time talking about how difficult it is to run while anything in the government but certainly the department of defense without Appropriations Bills in a timely manner. Last year we were off by 3. 5 months, Something Like that thats better than drifting into the next year. We did get appropriation bills done by december of last year which gives some predictability to the department i think that is enormously important. This year we hope to come a little closer to october 1 certainly on the authorizing bill that also the appropriation bill but most importantly, we have a budg

CSPAN3 Hearing On Military Privatized Housing July 13, 2024

All right, the Committee Meets today to receive testimony from the Government Accountability office, the Service Secretaries, the Service Chiefs, on the current condition of privatized military housing. Almost a year ago, i first heard from the military families about the dismal conditions they faced. Frankly confession is good for the soul. This was janet driver called this to my attention, from Tinker Air Force base. And i thought this was something that was just unique to Tinker Air Force base, and then i thought, no, it is elsewhere in oklahoma. And so that was the background of how this all started. Weve come to learn that its it is a problem nationwide. Its a National Crisis of proportions we havent seen since the scandal at walter reed about a decade ago. Members of this committee, our staff and myself, weve all traveled and seen these problems firsthand. This is the third hearing this committee has had on this issue and im sure its not going to be the last. We open that since o

Remember watching the hawks i am tyrrel but for joining me today is the best good journalist im the creator of truth and media one always a pleasure but i think that. You know other problems that were seeing on these this is a fascinating bit of you know empire gone wild in my opinion are the problems were seeing ultimately examples of the u. S. Military empire being stretched too thin using these wrong munitions the i mean were seeing now deformities in these kids in iraq its heartbreaking it is heartbreaking its but when maybe one of the worst things about the ongoing war on terror right which is that beyond the millions of people who have died the destruction of countries around the world which have generational impacts in addition to that we are now seeing the generational impacts of these munitions that you were talking ab

Unbelievably sad about this. Is that beyond the actual suffering that these children are going through is the fact that our military and our government wont even recognize it discuss it talk about it or accept that this is a reality of again the ongoing consequence of these wars it and thats a great point that you bring up because they they dont discuss it i mean you you you have to twist arms just to get them to talk about the after effects the burn pits in iraq iraq was done veterans who have come back and the amount of neurological damage and other strange diseases there and lets just talk can we just mention something about it because the burn pits are important for viewers who dont understand this so the u. S. Military when theyre in these locations have these pits where they burn chemicals and they burn all kinds of. Toxic theyre thrown into this and the inhalation from those burn pits causes not only birth defects as well and serious issues but chronic issues in u. S. Soldiers a
