Picture: Bradford Museums and Galleries A WOMAN who provided childcare for working mothers in Victorian Bradford, in premises known as “The Nest”, is to have a blue plaque in her honour. Florence Moser, who became a pioneer in nursery care and early years education, is one of four Bradford women honoured in Bradford Civic Society’s blue plaque scheme addressing an historic gender inbalance of memorials in the city. Florence s plaque will be installed by the society on International Women’s Day next week. A ‘forgotten philanthropist’, Florence Moser was a prominent member of Bradford’s 19th century German-Jewish community and a major funder of the fledgling Bradford Royal Infirmary, as well as several other charities. But it was her work in supporting the city’s working mothers that led to her to break new ground in childcare. Florence established “The Nest”, off Westgate in the city centre, where working mothers

Euro Max is based at North Brook Street - in a unit that was previously a Lexus dealership. The building, just off Shipley Airedale Road and a short distance from Forster Square rail station, had been empty for much of the past decade, although it was recently occupied by Safe Glaze UK. That company went into administration in 2018. The building has since been sub-divided and is now known as North Brook Street Works. A car repair shop, RV Autos, occupies one unit, with Euro Max, an Eastern European speciality food store, occupying another. The company behind the Euro Max, Vilnius & LM Ltd has applied to Bradford Council for a licence to sell alcohol at the shop between 10am and 10pm.

BRADFORD needs to plan for an economic recovery that will leave the District in better shape than it was before the Covid pandemic Councillors have heard. Yesterday the Chair of the District’s Economic Recovery Board said: “We don’t want to go back to normal, because normal wasn’t good enough.” Professor Zahir Irani, Deputy Vice Chancellor, University of Bradford, was speaking during a meeting of Bradford Council’s Executive, where members were asked to approved The Bradford District Economic Recovery Plan.
