Red Bull has vowed to make its RB16B bulletproof this season in its bid to finally dislodge Mercedes from its perch as the dominant force in Formula 1.
The Milton Keynes-based team left the season-opening race in Bahrain bitterly disappointed Max Verstappen failed to follow up his pole position with a race win.

But on the positive side, the team that has been notoriously slow-starters in the past knows it has commenced this season with its nose ahead of Mercedes in terms of the development and the pace of its car.

Williams driver George Russell has conceded he has been pushy with Mercedes throughout his career but insists he will not exact the same pressures over a 2022 drive with the champions.
As part of Mercedes junior driver programme, Russell has long been nurtured by the manufacturer which helped provide him with the opportunity to drive for Williams.

Then when Lewis Hamilton was hit with Covid last year, Mercedes turned to Russell to deputise, and it is now viewed as a matter of when and not if he will be given a full-time race seat.

Sergio Perez has revealed that missing two races at Silverstone after contracting Covid-19 last year was “the hardest moment” of his Formula 1 career.
Perez, who competed for Racing Point in 2020, tested positive just three days before the British Grand Prix and was immediately withdrawn from the race, subsequently missing the 70th Anniversary GP at the same venue a week later.

The 31-year-old was the first driver to test positive for Covid-19, less than a month after the delayed season had commenced in Austria in July.

Mercedes technical director James Allison has outlined the vital pre-race strategy call that played a pivotal role in Lewis Hamilton s Bahrain Grand Prix victory.
In the build-up to the race, Mercedes opted not to use any of its two available sets of the hard tyre throughout practice or qualifying, conducting the majority of its running on the soft Pirelli compound.

Given the high level of thermal degradation around the Bahrain International Circuit, this proved crucial as it allowed Mercedes to run its second and third stints on the hard tyre after starting the race on the medium.
Gasly ready for AlphaTauri team leader role

Pierre Gasly is ready to take on the team leader mantle at AlphaTauri, according to team principal Franz Tost.
The Frenchman has started only his fourth full season in Formula 1 but takes the lead at the Faenza-based Italian outfit after the arrival of Japanese rookie Yuki Tsunoda, and one-and-a-half years after being dropped by Red Bull.

He has learned a lot in the last years, and he is taking on this role to be a team leader with his experience, and this will help out the team, and especially Yuki.
