Formula 1 won t change W Series atmosphere | F1 News by PlanetF1

Formula 1 won’t change W Series atmosphere Date published: December 20 2020 2019 W Series runner-up Beitske Visser doesn’t think the “atmosphere” will change once the category joins Formula 1’s support bill. The opening six-race season of the W Series in 2019 was won by Jamie Chadwick, while Visser picked up a win and three further podiums to take P2 in the standings, 10 points adrift of Chadwick who went on to join Williams as a development driver. And for 2021 the W Series returns with an eight-race calendar, though this time it will switch from the DTM to the Formula 1 support race schedule. Instantly that will put a far greater spotlight on the competition, but Visser doesn’t expect the “atmosphere” to change as a result, especially since all drivers are using identical Formula 3 machinery.

Danish F4 champion Conrad Laursen set for Italian F4 move in 2021 Photo: Danish F4 Reigning Danish Formula 4 champion Conrad Laursen is aiming to remain in the category next year with a switch to the Italian series. The Dane raced in OK Junior karts through 2018 and 2019, with a best result of third in last year’s South Garda Winter Cup behind Mercedes-AMG Formula 1 junior Andrea Kimi Antonelli and soon-to-be Ferrari-backed Nicolas Todt protege James Wharton. His step up to cars in Danish F4, which ran only to three rounds as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, included two wins. “2020 has really been up and down. It was great to take the title, but I would probably have liked to have done it in Sweden [the planned replacement final round] – it did not work that way,” said Laursen.
