PEORIA A former Peoria businessman was sentenced to two years in federal prison on Wednesday for filing false corporate tax returns.
Yousef Abdallah, who now lives in Danville, was also ordered to pay restitution to the IRS in the amount of $176,196 and was fined $15,000. Prosecutors, as part of the plea agreement, dropped four other related counts.
The 69-year-old Abdallah pleaded quickly in 2019 to filing a false return for 2014. As part of his plea, he agree to pay restitution for 2013 and 2015, as well as 2014, for not reporting about $1 million in sales at his store, Danville Liquors.
The IRS learned of his actions when he posted the business for sale on the Internet. His asking price was $425,000 based on touted sales of $1.56 million each year. However, Abdallah admitted that he did not report all his sales on the income tax return, according to court records.
