Fort Smith Public Schools announce new assistant superintendent of HR

“I am excited to transition into this role within the district and look forward to continuing to serve and provide support to our educators and staff as we begin a new school year,” Davis said in a news release. Davis, who has a doctorate of education in school leadership from Arkansas Tech University, previously served as an assistant principal at Northside High School. He has also worked as a middle school principal and high school assistant principal in Huntsville, as well as band director and music educator in Mountain Home. Davis and his wife, Sarah (Kesner) Davis have two sons, Landon and Logan.

Josh Price has launched his campaign for secretary of state

Fort Smith Times Record Josh Price, former Pulaski County election commissioner, will be seeking the Democratic nomination for Arkansas secretary of state in 2022.   Price stated that protecting voting rights as the reason for launching his campaign.  “Out of touch politicians are making it harder for people to vote. That’s just not right. Rural voters, seniors, single mothers, working-class Arkansans - they’re all facing new hurdles to exercising their American right to vote,” Price said.  As election commissioner for Pulaski County, Price oversaw the election for Arkansas’ largest county. During his tenure, Price opened additional early voting locations, replaced voting machines that were up to 20 years old and trained workers during the pandemic. Price was the first Asian-American to serve in this position. 

Former Fort Smith youth church volunteer pleads guilty to sexually assaulting minors

Updated: 4:12 PM CDT June 30, 2021 FORT SMITH, Ark. A former youth church volunteer in Fort Smith has pled guilty to two counts of sexually assaulting minors. He was sentenced to 20 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction plus an additional 10 year suspended sentence.  Isiah Thompson was arrested in November of 2020 after being accused of having sexual relationships with minors when volunteering to help with youth at the Christ for the World church.   According to an affidavit released at the time of his arrest, on January 30, 2020, a church member went to the Fort Smith Police Department to report that another church member had engaged in inappropriate sexual activity with a minor.
