Former Fall River music teacher Mary Zema tackles loss in new album

“I’m basically trying to help people heal,” said Mary Zema. Zema, a resident of Warwick, R.I., retired from the Fall River Public Schools system in 2019 after 33 years teaching music at all different grade levels. Since then, she’s been busy writing and recording songs in her home studio, performing most of the instrumentals and vocals herself. “I’ve been doing it nonstop for a year and a half, in my basement for a few hours every day,” she said. She aims to release her album in late June, with some songs already available on her Facebook and Soundcloud.
