Mumbai: Man booked for forging caste certificate for MBBS admission granted bail

A sessions court has granted bail to a man accused of providing a fake caste certificate to a student to enable her to get admission into a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) course at Grant Medical College, Byculla, in 2018-2019.
The JJ Marg police station, where the offence of cheating and forgery has been registered against him, had opposed his plea, stating that his co-accused is absconding and that the man is a habitual offender and another similar offence has been registered against him. The court, while granting him bail, relied on the observations of the Gujarat High Court, where it had held that, if there is laxity or inability on the prosecutionâs part to arrest the co-accused, then on that ground, the other accused against whom the investigation is over and chargesheet is filed, cannot be denied bail. The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kano State says it intercepted 9,075 kilogrammes of illicit drugs in 2020.
The NDLEA Commander in the state, Dr Ibrahim Abdul, disclosed this in an interview with NAN on Wednesday in Kano. According to Abdul, the command arrested no fewer than 1,035 suspected drug traffickers, out of which 87 have been convicted.
He said, “during the year under review, we were able to intercept 7,108.7 kilogrammes of Cannabis Sativa, 1,966.3 kilogrammes of Psychotropics and 0.138 kilogrammes of Cocaine.
“We were also able to refer 998 drug users for brief intervention (counselling), another 40 regular clients have been admitted, while 44 were discharged after undergoing counselling.”
