Waterside Theatre in Long Lane, Holbury, reduced to rubble

1/1 A LANDMARK building on the edge of the New Forest is being demolished - just weeks after plans to transform the site were approved. The former Waterside Theatre, which has dominated the area for the past 70 years, is rapidly being reduced to a pile of rubble. Other parts of the old Waterside Sports and Social Club in Long Lane, Holbury, are also being torn down. Proposals to replace the complex with a sports pavilion and a community garden were approved by New Forest District Council last month. The club was built to serve workers at the neighbouring Fawley refinery. Cllr David Harrison, who represents part of the Waterside area, said it was a shame that Esso s application to redevelop the site had been approved.
