Malcolm Clarkson, 44, of Merseyside, was jailed three-and-a-half years at Warwick Crown Court (pictured outside court) A lorry driver who was distracted talking to his mother on a hands-free call when he killed a good-samaritan RAF pilot who had stopped to help an injured motorist has been jailed.  Malcolm Clarkson, 44, crashed his HGV into the back of Scott McConnell, 26, who was sat in his VW Golf with hazard lights on after stopping to help another driver who had crashed. Sergeant McConnell stopped to check on another driver after witnessing a collision between a white van and a Royal Mail lorry on the M40 northbound near Warwick at 10.15pm on November 19, 2019.

Expert officers have been equipped with state-of-the-art 3D scanners worth £160,000 to help them investigate fatalities on the region’s roads. Exposed to the elements and under immense time-pressures to examine the scene of a collision for the smallest speck of evidence, our forensic officers do an incredibly challenging job. Now, the team of officers based in our Forensic Services Department, have received a boost to their investigative capacity as the Force invests in a fleet of new laser scanners which allow them to map a vehicle, or an area and create a virtual 3D representation – preserving evidential clues long after a road re-opens.
