maybe the evidence of that is that, can we call this a week of you turns where he said one thing and did another. flipflops, i think you can call them that. he now sports the export/import bank. he says china is not a currency manipulator. might keep janet yellen and nato isn t obsolete. on top of that, he dropped two bombs this week. how would you describe the trump doctrine. his foreign policy doctrine seems to be nonintervention unless when i m watching cnn i get moved. in which case, i will change my mind. but i think that really, in all those cases, that s what i meant by trump s good week. he has moved to a more sensible policy. there were a lot of crazy things he said during the campaign. many of us watched with horror thinking he might implement them. in almost everything you read, i think basically he s moved to the right place. the problem is, i think allies
hartung more cynical than most? he was getting bipartisan praise at first, even members of the democratic party were saying this seems like it s good. we may want to see more. we would like to see him consult with congress. but at first a lot of the response was praise and obvious obviously there s nothing that donald trump likes more than hearing him praised. this is something that maybe isn t going as badly for the trump administration as all of the domestic policy and it s a bit of a distraction. but i don t know yet i don t think we know whether there is any foreign policy doctrine other than unpredictability. errol was talking about how allies don t like this. china said, don t start this because if world war starts,
so again, what is donald trump s foreign policy doctrine? this does contradict what he campaigned on which was very much scaling back u.s. military involvement overseas. courtney, let me give the last question to you, afghanistan, we know, according to the president himself, he s sending his national security adviser, mcmaster, to go to afghanistan to reassess the situation on the ground. put afghanistan right now into a broader context if you can? yeah. general mcmaster is ctainly no stranger to afghanistan. that s the fst place i met him when he was a senior colonel several years ago, about ten years ago. afghanistan is sort of become the forgotten war, but it s certainly not quieted down by any stretch of the imagination. the taliban continues to put on a strong offensive in the south, particularly in southwestern afghanistan, that s one reason that we re seeing just this spring we re going to see a contingent of u.s. marines who will deploy to helmand province
