Anger as Senate committee uncovers payment of  N443 billion as subsidy without appropriation

Share The Senate Committee on Public  Accounts on Wednesday was stunned as the  Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris told the lawmakers that only the national oil giant, the  Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, (NNPC) could give an account of how N443 billion was paid as petroleum subsidy without appropriation by the National Assembly. The Account General of the Federation was invited sequel to the query issued by the Auditor General of the Federation Office in its 2016 report. The query read in part: “During the examination of Subsidy records provided by FAAC, it was observed that total subsidy paid during the year 2016 was N443,940,559,974.80.

Senate tackles NNPC over N443bn payment without approval

Punch Newspapers Sections Sunday Aborisade, Abuja Senate Public Accounts Committee on Wednesday berated the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation for paying N443bn without the National Assembly’s appropriation. The chairman of the committee, Senator Mathew Urhoghide, has summoned the management of the NNPC to explain the expenditure it made without budgetary provision. The committee took the decision based on the 2016 report of the Auditor-General for the Federation, which is currently being scrutinised.
