Taipei, April 29 (CNA) The precipitation during the upcoming plum rain season in Taiwan has been forecast to be from normal to below normal this year, with rainfalls more likely to concentrate in certain periods of time and in a higher intensity than before, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).

<strong>Holiday train services added </strong>
Travelers are to be offered an increased number of train services over two weekends next month for a national holiday and a religious festival, the Taiwan Railways Administration said yesterday. Chu-Kuang Express trains would run between Keelung and Changhua County on Saturday and Sunday next week, providing additional options for people who wish to take part in an annual pilgrimage that honors the sea goddess Matsu, it said. Snow chasers might be in luck, as more snow is forecast at high altitudes across Taiwan with a cold weather system on the way, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said yesterday.
With a strong cold air mass and abundant moisture expected to affect Taiwan from this afternoon, forecasters said the chance of snowfall in areas above 3,000m is high, particularly tomorrow and on Monday.
There was 1.5cm of accumulated snow on Jade Mountain in Nantou County yesterday after a day of sporadic snowfall, the bureau said.

A cold front would arrive in Taiwan on Tuesday and linger until Friday, the Central Weather Bureau forecast yesterday.
While tomorrow’s temperatures throughout Taiwan would rise slightly, a continental cold air mass would from Tuesday bring rain to the northern and eastern parts of the country, as well as to mountainous areas in central Taiwan.
The rest of the country would mostly see cloudy skies, but have chances of sunshine, the bureau said.
The effect of the cold air mass would be most pronounced early on Wednesday, when the temperature in low-lying parts of northern Taiwan would drop to as low as 9°C
A continental cold front would continue to affect the weather until tomorrow, with yesterday’s nighttime temperatures dropping to below 10°C in northern and northeastern Taiwan, as well as Kinmen County, the Central Weather Bureau said.
North of Tainan and in northeastern Taiwan, the mercury fell to 13°C to 15°C early yesterday morning, with even deeper temperatures in coastal areas and low-lying areas near mountains, the bureau said.
Elsewhere, temperatures remained above 16°C to 17°C, it added.
The lowest temperature in the nation’s low-lying areas was 9.5°C in New Taipei City’s Linkou District (林口) at 9am, it said.
