Work gets underway at Avonway Community Centre, Fordingbridge

WORK to improve Avonway Community Centre in Fordingbridge has started. The scaffolding is up and a team have started taking down the redundant chimneys before work starts on the roof. In late 2019, an appeal was launched to raise around £70,000 for vital roof repairs at the centre in Shaftesbury Street. Since then there have been donations from the community as well as grants from Fordingbridge Town Council, New Forest District Council, and local councillors. It is hoped the work to repair the roof can start in July. You can also like our Facebook page and follow us on Twitter and Instagram to stay up to date.

Plan for homes at Stuckton Road, Fordingbridge, thrown out

1/1 PLANS to build almost 100 homes on the edge of a Hampshire town have been rejected after sparking 70 objections. Civic chiefs have refused an application to redevelop a large area of grazing land in a extremely sensitive location just 500 metres from the boundary of the New Forest National Park. They said the proposed development would create an enclave of condensed suburbia at St John s Farm in Stuckton Road, Fordingbridge. The applicants had sought consent to build 78 dwellings and 20 retirement homes , plus a village hall and a children s playground. The scheme also included a new access from the B3078. But Fordingbridge Town Council and Godshill Parish Council urged New Forest District Council to reject the proposals.

Survey reveals what residents want in Fordingbridge

RESIDENTS in Fordingbridge have called for more benches and parking, as well as better maintenance of pavements and overgrown hedges and trees. During October 2020 Fordingbridge Town Council conducted a survey to find out what improvements people wanted to see. The council’s annual town meeting on April 22 heard that there had been 430 responses. Deputy mayor, Councillor Anna Wilson, said these responses highlighted “several problems of importance” with calls for more benches, and maintenance of overgrown hedges, trees and footpaths, as well as more parking, lighting and concerns about the road in High Street. She said a trailway in the town was “hugely popular” and “one of the biggest things people voted on”.

Objections to plans for 98 homes on St Johns Farm, Stuckton Road

COUNCILLORS in Fordingbridge have objected to proposals to build nearly 100 homes. The plans were discussed by Fordingbridge Town Council’s planning committee last week. At a previous meeting Councillor Alan Lewendon questioned whether this development, which was not designated in New Forest District Council’s (NFDC) Local Plan, was needed as the three sites already allocated should address housing needs. He also said it was outside the defined built up area of Fordingbridge. Planning agent James Cain, speaking on behalf of the applicant, said the proposed development would provide 21 “affordable” homes and also “cater for a full range of people in Fordingbridge”.
