Over the past month, we explored together the world of the Blue Oval as part of our Ford Month coverage. We’ve seen everything from brand new cars and trucks to the ones the carmaker used to build, but also tons of Ford-branded custom projects. 1 photo
Particularly exciting are the hot rod kits supplied for those planning to assemble their own Fords in the comforts of their own garages. We’ve already talked about the two partial kits offered by a Massachusetts-based shop called Factory Five, Stage 1 and Stage 2, but now it’s time for the whole shebang, the complete kit as it’s called.

It’s not all that clear when flames painted on cars have become a thing, but the fact remains that someone, somewhere, decided that painting fire on a car’s body would somehow increase its value. And it did, for a while at least, as a few years ago, you couldn’t build a proper custom car without gifting it with some type of art flames. 11 photos
We’re pretty certain flames were not something people wanted to be associated with cars back in 1934, though, the year this here Ford is supposed to have been born. Yet, here they are, even if from a distance they kind of look even worse than that, like red blood stains splattered on the hood, fenders, and doors.

We are willing to bet Henry Ford had no idea what the cars his company made in its early years will turn into. The man was set on making money, not icons, but somehow, unwillingly perhaps, managed to set the basis of a custom industry that would feed on those incipient Blue Ovals. 14 photos
If you really think about it, there’s not a single early Ford model that escaped the clutches of today’s custom industry. From the A to the T (alphabetically), and everything in between, early Fords have been chopped, raised, cut, deleted, and upgraded to such a degree and so messy the father of them all would never recognize, let alone approve of them.

Our trip in the rich world of the Blue Oval this January, when we here at
autoevolution are celebrating Ford Month, has taken us down some very interesting paths. One of them is that of the hot rods, a segment of the industry that was, is, and forever will be a sucker for Fords. 16 photos
It’s no surprise then that hot rods are usually associated with the Dearborn carmaker. But the thing is these builds are generally Fords just in name, as more often than not the most important hardware of any machine, the engine, is of GM-make.
