De acuerdo con fuentes policiales, las dos víctimas son consideradas como “daño colateral” del tiroteo entre elementos de la Fuerza Civil, el grupo élite de la Secretaría de Seguridad Pública de Veracruz y presuntos integrantes del Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG), considerado el más violento del país.
Los hechos ocurrieron en el municipio montañoso de Omealca, donde las fuerzas policiales recibieron una denuncia ciudadana sobre la presencia de dos vehículos con gente armada en la comunidad de Guadalupe La Patrona.
