CENTRAL Queensland cattle producers have been warned to keep an eye out for signs of dog activity and monitor the behaviour of livestock following recent sightings of packs of wild dogs along the coast.
According to AgForce Cattle Board president Will Wilson, wild dogs were affecting the cattle industry right across Queensland in varying degrees through impacts such as mortality, as well as harassment and bites.
Mr Wilson said a recent case in Rockhampton saw a pack of seven wild dogs kill two weaner bulls, a cow, and a large calf.
“When pack size is large like this, they are more than capable of taking down large stock and causing untold harm and destruction, not only to livestock but to domestic pets, especially in peri-urban areas of Queensland,” he said.
