Refuse collection was at the forefront of the Columbia City Council meeting Monday and even before the meeting started.
Protesters from Columbia MO Citizens For Roll Carts stood outside City Hall collecting signatures for a roll cart initiative during the council s closed pre-council session.
The protest included the group s #stuffthekeyhole initiative. Protesters were encouraged to bring trash bags full of old clothes or blankets to fill the gap in the city s Keys to the City sculpture that sits in front of the Daniel Boone Building.
Trash collection has continued to be a hot-button issue within the city, especially after the solid waste division switched to its new pay-as-you-throw system Feb. 1.
