A new weekly farmers market is coming this summer to downtown Fayetteville.
The District Summer Market will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. every Thursday from June 3 until Aug. 26 (closed July 1) in Festival Park at 335 Ray Ave.
The market, organized by Cool Spring Downtown District, will feature around 25 vendors selling local produce, meats, art and other goods.
“We’re thrilled to be part of The District Summer Market this year, farmer Saira Meneses said in a statement announcing the market. It s going to be, without a doubt, a great addition to downtown Fayetteville, and my husband, AJ, and I are looking forward to introducing our farm and unique products to attendees.”
Simmons, 39, doesn t fit the farming stereotype.
He wears modern or stylish clothing, and his youthful, warm energy can make anyone feel as if they already know him, just after being introduced.
He believes that the way he dresses and his demeanor help him relate more to people, especially kids in his Duplin County community.
“Whenever you show up at a school as a farmer, and you talk with kids, it s easy to get on their level. It’s so easy to get on their level,” said Simmons, who often invites local children to his farm to teach them about raising livestock and growing crops.
