PRRD to recommend renewal of 911 service in First Nations communities

For First Nations communities to qualify for funding from Indigenous Services Canada, they need a current agreement with a service provider. The deadline to request funding this year from ISC is July 30th. The proposed agreement is for a one-year term starting January 1st, 2022, with the option to extend the term for another year. The report states that staff will work with First Nations partners to examine and review the cost of the service and make adjustments to the funding formula if needed. Based on the 2018 service rates, Blueberry River First Nations would pay $951, Doig River First Nation would pay $719, West Moberly First Nations would pay $706, Halfway River First Nation would pay $858, and Saulteau First Nations would pay $1579.

Nor did she imagine that in early 2021 she’d still be fighting the same gruelling human rights case against the federal government that she launched in 2007. That case, led by Blackstock’s First Nations Child and Family Caring Society and the Assembly of First Nations, alleged the federal government discriminates against Indigenous children by providing less funding and poorer services than it does for non-Indigenous children.
